Time-dependent inversion of three-component continuous GPS for steady and transient sources in northern Cascadia

چکیده

[1] An approach to invert GPS time series to estimate crustal block rotations, fault locking and strain rates while simultaneously solving for transient slow slip events is described and applied to the northern Cascadia subduction zone. The method can use continuous or survey mode GPS time series or both. I invert 5.6 years of 3-component continuous GPS time series at 53 sites from Cascadia to estimate simultaneously the block motions and strains, locking on the subduction zone and source parameters of the four most recent slow-slip events. Over the time period and section of the Cascadia margin sampled, the strain released in slow slip was 7 to 10% of the accumulated subduction strain but at the base of and immediately downdip of the locked zone beneath the Olympic Peninsula. First results from a dense semi-continuous GPS deployment during the September 2005 northern Cascadia slow slip event

In August of 2005, we deployed 29 GPS stations in the Olympic Peninsula with the goal of recording crustal motion associated with a slow slip event on the Cascadia subduction interface. This is the first semi-continuous GPS network established with the aim of providing a high resolution image of crustal motion associated with a slow slip event. We recorded data during the period from August 2 t...

Slow slip predictions based on granite and gabbro friction data compared to GPS measurements in northern Cascadia

[1] For episodic slow slip transients in subduction zones, a large uncertainty in comparing surface deformations predicted by forward modeling based on rate and state friction to GPS measurements lies in our limited knowledge of the frictional properties and fluid pore pressure along shallow subduction faults. In this study, we apply the laboratory rate and state friction data of granite and ga...

Future Cascadia megathrust rupture delineated by episodic tremor and slip

[1] A suite of 15 episodic tremor and slip events imaged between 1997 and 2008 along the northern Cascadia subduction zone suggests future coseismic rupture will extend to 25 km depth, or 60 km inland of the Pacific coast, rather than stopping offshore at 15 km depth. An ETS-derived coupling profile accurately predicts GPSmeasured interseismic deformation of the overlying North American plate, ...

A New Continuous Multi-State Reliability Model with Time Dependent Component Performance Rate

A CSS1†is a system with the continues-state components. When a component has the ability to obtain all the situations from completely working to completely failed, it named continues-state component. In the real world, performance rate of elements are continuous and decrease by time. Continuity of components causes infinite working states and grows up the system states. In this paper we propose...

LASERS WITHOUT INVERSION: DENSITY OPERATOR METHOD

A quantum theory of a two and three-level laser with injected atomic coherence is developed by using a density operator method, to the best of our knowledge, for the first time. The initial atomic coherence plays an essential role. At steady state, the equation of motion for the density operator yields to exhibit laser without inversion and a phase locking but no threshold for the laser fie...
